If you’re a small business owner in Glasgow or anywhere in Scotland, you’ve probably seen website prices from a few pounds a month to £10,000+. Here’s what you actually get at each level, and what to watch out for.
The short answer
For most small businesses, a professionally built website from a freelancer costs £800–£3,000, and agencies typically charge £3,000–£12,000. Where you land depends on the number of pages, the design, who writes the words and any extra features like online booking or a shop.
These are typical UK prices in 2026, from freelancers at the lower end to agencies at the top. Every project is different. For reference, my own websites start from £495 for one page and £1,195 for up to 5 pages.
What makes the price go up?
- More pagesEach service, treatment or location page needs design and writing.
- Custom designBespoke design costs more than a template, and stands out more.
- CopywritingWords that sell take time to get right.
- FeaturesBooking, quote forms, payments and integrations.
Monthly costs to budget for
Good news: very little. The only must-have is domain & hosting, often from around £20 a year for a simple site. Maintenance, ongoing SEO and Google Ads are optional extras you can add later if and when they make sense for your business.
Is DIY cheaper?
On paper, yes. But once you count the evenings spent learning a website builder, the slower site and the enquiries you might miss, a professional website often costs less over two or three years, and it starts paying for itself sooner.
My advice
Start with what you need now (usually a clear, fast website with a few strong pages) and add SEO, ads or automation as you grow. And always get a fixed price in writing.
